International Architecture Summer School – Metabolism Revisited

The International Summer School of Architecture and Design will take place in the premises of the high school St. Clement of Ohrid. Ohrid is a city in the Republic of Macedonia with over 42,000 inhabitants, close to the border with Albania. Ohrid and its lake are a leading tourist center in Macedonia and in 1979 they were accepted as Cultural and Natural World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

This year Summer School will be held from Sunday 29 June until Sunday 6 July. The main tutors will be the Japanese Yoshiharu Tsukamoto and Momoyo Kaijima, from Atelier Bow-Wow. The assisting tutors are the Croatian Vinko Penezić and Krešimir Rogina, from Penezić & Rogina architects.

The theme for the 2014 session of the Summer School is “METABOLISM REVISITED”. Metabolism of today is no longer the Metabolism of former periods. It was created in Japan by a group of then architects and theoreticians, during the preparation for Tokyo World Design Conference in 1960. They were influenced by a wide variety of sources including Marxist theories and biological processes.
